MOTS-C

MOTS-c

What Is MOTS-c?
MOTS-c is a peptide encoded by mitochondrial DNA and studied for its possible role in cellular stress responses and metabolic signaling. Mitochondria help cells manage energy, making this an especially engaging area of modern biology. Researchers have explored MOTS-c in relation to metabolic adaptation and exercise responses.

Frequently asked questions
How does MOTS-c work?
Activating AMPK (The Master Switch): MOTS-c modulates metabolic pathways that lead to the activation of AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase), an enzyme that regulates cellular energy. This activation mimics many of the same metabolic shifts triggered by physical exercise and caloric restriction.
Improving Glucose and Fat Metabolism: By signaling through these pathways, MOTS-c increases glucose uptake into skeletal muscle (often independently of insulin), enhances fatty acid oxidation (burning fat for fuel), and improves insulin sensitivity.
Mitochondrial Biogenesis: It downstream stimulates pathway, including sirtuins and PGC-1α that encourage the body to build new, healthy mitochondria and improve cellular energy production.
What are the possible side effects of MOTS-c?
Possible administration-site reactions with injectable formulations
Allergic or unexpected reactions are possible
Human long-term safety and interactions are not well characterized
What precautions should I know about?
Discuss your medical history, medications, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and treatment goals with the prescribing clinician.
Ask your pharmacy about the specific formulation, ingredients, concentration, administration route, and storage requirements.
Use only as prescribed for you; do not share medication or supplies.
Seek prompt medical advice for a concerning reaction. Difficulty breathing or facial/throat swelling requires emergency care.
